In San Diego. In San Diego, much of the future growth in the retail sector will be concentrated in outlying suburbs, primarily San Marcos, Carlsbad and Chula Vista. The mayor and city council, in June of 2007, overturned a ban on big-box stores, which will likely lead to increased development by Wal-Mart in 2008. Investors continue to view San Diego’s retail properties favorably, and buyers are seeking single-tenant properties throughout the metro, with drugstores and restaurants in particular showing good closing activity.
